3.64this is the free album by gorillaz, recorded and produced on on ipad. there was quite a lot of beeps on this album, which is sort of expected, but it also sounds like a very complicated album, with so many effects all over the album.
after listening to about half of the album, it is actually quite boring because there's mostly mindless beepings, zoopings and effects going on, other than some droopy singing. it's not ambient, it's hypnotising by boring and dizzying sounds.
nevertheless, for an album recorded and produced on ipad, it's not bad. it's not shoddy work, quite the opposite actually. the simpler the tool, the harder you try to add in more stuff to cover up the simplicity.

4.61my very first album review here. actually i was wanting to write up about jagged little pill instead, but then decided to move on to charlotte gainsbourg's irm, but then reading life yesterday, i got interested in this album, the fool.
this album tells me exactly what i like about pschedelic rock - the dizzying layers of instruments. and then in between these layers you can hear some sort of trancy vocal trying to enchant you even more. but most of the tracks on the album seem to have their vocals drowned out, or simply they were too soft to be as useful as it should be, save for "shadows" and "baby".
the psychedelic nature of the fool also reminds me of a recent album review i did on animal collective's merriweather post pavilion, which i gave a full 5.00. the fool doesnt have as strong a mind-manifesting power as merriweather post pavilion. maybe that's the fool's losing point.
but overall, this album is very enjoyable especially if you want to escape reality through music. and its much better than taking psychedelic mushrooms.
anyway, merry xmas...
